Frequently Asked Questions

What’s the difference between a regular dishwasher tablet and a Skipper one?

Skipper dishwasher tablets offer superior cleaning performance, are made with biodegradable plant-based ingredients, and are free from harsh chemicals, unlike many regular supermarket tablets which may leave residue and contain synthetic chemicals.

Additionally, Skipper is committed to sustainability with eco-friendly manufacturing practices and transparent ingredient lists.

How do dishwasher tablets compare to dishwasher sheets?

At Skipper we've attempted to develop dishwasher sheets, however haven't been able to achieve performance that is close or comparable to our dishwasher tablets.

In-fact, Choice found that dishwashing sheets performed no better than plain water when comparing sheets from another Australian brand. Read the article here.

Do I remove the wrapper from the dish tablets?

No, keep the wrappers on your dishwashing tablets! They are completely biodegradable and will dissolve when you turn on the cycle. The dish tabs wrapper is made of PVA (sometimes called PVOH). If you’re interested in learning more about this ingredient read our blog (5 minutes) here.

What ingredients are in your dishwashing tablets?

Citric acid, sodium carbonate, sodium bicarbonate, sodium percabonate, sodium silicate, sodium chloride, trisodium citrate dihydrate, glycerin, amylase-alpha, bentonite, substilsin, polycarboxylates, fatty acids c16-18 magnesium salts, taed, polyvinyl alcohol, lauryl polyglucose.

Why are your dishwasher tablets made in France?

We are working on manufacturing dishwasher tablets in Australia, however it's a challenging project. Did you know there's no such thing as an Australian-made dish tab? Yep, every product in major supermarkets is imported.

We source our dish tabs from France as they have the most reputable manufacturer of eco-friendly tablets, with a powerful and biodegradable formula, made from plants and minerals.

Stay tuned for more updates our Australian manufacturing initiatives. When we started Skipper (formerly Tirtyl), we were unable to make any products locally. A few years later, we now develop 3 of our products in Australia, two of which are world-first of it's kind.

Whilst there's no Australian-made dishwasher tablets on the market just yet, we are quitely confident we'll get there... sooner than you think!

Are your dish tablets septic and greywater safe?

Yes, our dishwasher tablets are considered septic and grey water safe, including for use with enviro septic systems. In fact, all our products are septic and grey water-safe.

Our ingredients are reviewed internally for known hazards to our environment, waterways, longevity of septic systems (harsher chemicals can wear components) and of course, exposure to humans and pets at home.

Do your dish tablets contain plastic / PVA?

The biodegradable wrapper on our dish tabs is made from PVA (Polyvinyl Alcohol), a water-soluble synthetic polymer. PVA has been proven through decades of credible research to be completely biodegradable (no microplastics) and safe for humans and the environment. In-fact, it's commonly used across many industries impacting all of us, including vitamin capsules which are consumed by millions of people daily!

Early in 2024 there was recent debate about the use of PVA, caused by misinformation spread by a company who has a commercial interest in discrediting products containing PVA (specifically, laundry sheets and pods).

Read our blog here (5 minutes), to learn why we use PVA in three of our products (laundry sheets, dishwasher tablets, toilet blocks) and why the ingredient is highly regarded in the industry as safe.

Do I need to use rinse-aid?

Rinse aid helps to prevent water spots and improve drying by reducing the surface tension of water, allowing it to rinse off dishes more effectively. It is generally recommended, but not essential to your dishwasher routine.

Are Skipper dishwasher tablets biodegradable?

Yes, Skipper's dishwasher tablets are made from plants and minerals and is at least 97% biodegradable (substantially higher than other tablets).
