Frequently Asked Questions

General Information

What are the products made of?

Plastic Waste
Polypropylene (PP), LDPE, HDPE & PET

Metal Rod on the Dish Caddy is Stainless Steel

Where is the plastic sourced?

The plastic is purchased above market price from trusted recycling aggregators in Bali. A small amount is collected from schools.

The plastic is collected by informal waste collectors from homes, small businesses,  streets, river banks, and beaches

Why Indonesia? Why not Australia?

Two-fold.

  1. Indonesia has a plastics crisis and the need for solutions there is far greater than Australia. Much of the waste collected in Bali is from tourists, many of which are Australian.
  2. The economics of collection & upcycling in Indonesia mean that we can offer products affordably to SKIPPERs. Without consumer demand, the project doesn’t make sense.

Are you certified?

Our main manufacturing partner is a member of SEDEX - a global ethical data exchange network to manage & improve their ethical and sustainable business practices.

Lach makes regular visits and takes a hands-on role to understand the supply chain and waste streams.

Are these ocean plastic?

A small portion of plastic feedstock may be collected from beach cleanups during wet season. However, the far majority is collected on land before it gets a chance to reach the ocean.

Why is my product slightly different to the picture?

The beauty of recycled plastic is that every product is unique and has its own story. A single finished piece may feature shredded plastic from hundreds of slightly different coloured bottles and caps.
